Dare You to Move FAQ
What is Dare You to Move?
It's a campaign to help True North raise the resources to move into its new location.
Why are we moving?
We outgrew our first facility and are rapidly outgrowing our current facility, which we are renting. Also, we have to leave our current facility at the end of August.
When are we moving?
Sometime late this fall. It's likely that we'll have to have our Sunday services in a temporary location (TBA) until our building is completed.
Where is the new building located?
The address of the building is 1101 Lakeland Ave. Bohemia, NY. See below for our plans.

Will we be owning the building?
No. Or, at least not right away. Our current plan is to do to a long term lease with options to back out at our discretion.
As our church moves into its adolescence, our goal is to provide an environment where it can grow to whatever size God intends it to be before we tether ourselves to more land and debt.
We will be staying at our next location a minimum of 10 years (God willing) and will have options to extend our lease to 20 years at our discretion. That’s an EXTREMELY long time for a new church, and we anticipate that within that time, we will grow to a size where purchasing land and building on it, or moving to a multi-campus model will be easily within reach.
Why are we doing a fundraising campaign? Didn’t that whole lottery donation thing cover the costs?
In short, no. The figure attached to that (incredibly generous) donation was $3 million, but in reality, the amount received was much less than that.
We received an annuity, which is a promise that we will receive $150,000 a year over 20 years. When faced with the question of what to do next for our church (and after receiving advice from a LOT of people from the church world and the business world), we decided that rather than wait 20 years to receive the full benefit of the gift, it would be wiser to leverage that money to see God’s kingdom moved forward now.
That is, we exercised an option to pay a penalty and take the money out of the annuity in a lump sum and put it to work.
The deciding moment came when our pastor was asked the following question by a friend who is an elder at a large church in the south:
“Bert, the question you want to ask yourself is this: If Jesus comes back tomorrow and asks what you’ve done, do you want to be the church with the huge bank account or do you want to be the church that leveraged everything it had to reach people in the here and now?”
Our leadership team asked that question to each other, and the answer became obvious. Although we fully intend to still be running this race in 20 years, our calling is to do ALL we can to reach the people of Long Island NOW.
So, the remainder, minus the money we’ve given away, minus the money our Stewardship Team has set aside against the increased operating expenses incurred by a larger facility, puts us in need of a campaign like this one.

When you asked us for what we can give to the project in 2010, do you mean our total giving for the year, or the amount specifically donated to this campaign?
Sorry for the confusion on this. So we can plan accordingly, we are asking what you intend to give to this project specifically, that is, over and above what you would normally give.
We do NOT need to know your total giving amount. Just what you’d like to do for the Dare You to Move campaign.
I see the link for giving online, but if I prefer to do my giving on Sunday mornings, should I just drop it in the regular offering?
Actually, if you could use the black ‘Dare You to Move’ box in the lobby, we would really appreciate it. Even with ‘Dare You to Move’ in the memo line of your check, our counting team could accidentally include your donation to the program in with the day’s regular offering.
Yes, technically it’s all going to the same place, but we are trying to track the Dare You to Move program separately.
